Daily Life
and Radiation Project

Project Launch

Started in November 2001 to explore public perception and knowledge about radiation in our lives.

Key Findings from Surveys

  • ●80% of respondents associated “radiation” with feelings of fear.
  • ●Many were unaware of its use in medicine, industry, agriculture, and daily products.
Public comments: “I didn’t know radiation was used so much.”
“If this is true, we should learn and share more.”

WEN’s Response

  • ●Created “Living and Radiation” booklet to provide clear, accessible information.
  • ●Held 14 public forums nationwide (2002–2010).

Post-Fukushima Effort (2011)

  • ●After the accident, public anxiety surged.
  • ●WEN developed a Q&A booklet, avoiding emotional terms like “safe” or “secure,” focusing on clarity.

Latest Outreach (Web Survey)

  • ●Targeted Tokyo and Fukushima women.
  • ●Compared perceptions in consumption vs. production areas.
  • ●Explored awareness of radiation’s role in daily life.
  • ●The latest booklet is available on the WEN website.
