President of WEN
Women’s Energy Network (WEN) was established in March, 1993. The environment surrounding energy issues has been changing with the times. WEN has continuously and actively engaged in their work as a “pipeline” between the experts in energy field and the public. The activities can be classified into two main categories. The first is to enhance their knowledge and experience, through information exchange among the members at the voluntary study meetings. The second is to provide as many opportunities as possible to promote interactive communication between the experts and the public.
In 1998, WEN started project activities, in which members can freely participate with their own interest and work on them more deeply. Based on the outcome of the project, WEN has issued booklets for public relation purpose, presented papers at academic conferences, participated in the “Open School for Atomic Energy” and held forums all over Japan.
After the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011, we aim to stand from a more neutral and fair perspective on energy and resource issues, and to discuss and think together with the general public to achieve a better coexistence society between humans and energy.
